Español 1: This high school credit course is an introduction to the Spanish language. The student needs to take two semesters to fulfill one year of the Foreign Language requirement for High School graduates. Students will perform the most basic functions of the language and become familiar with some of the elements of its culture. The emphasis is based on the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills to promote meaningful language practice.
Students will start learning Spanish just as if they were beginning to learn their first language. We will start by learning basic words and short phrases. As the students advance throughout the year, they will learn to write sentences and read entire paragraphs in Spanish. However, this does not happen overnight. It takes time and lots of practice and patience.
Español 2: This high school credit course fulfills one year of the Foreign Language requirement for High School graduates. Students need to take two semesters to earn 1 high school credit. In this class we will build on the basic skills acquired in Spanish 1. Students will expand their vocabulary, learn additional verb tenses, and further develop skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in the Spanish language.
At every class we will spend time perfecting the four skills necessary for learning a foreign language: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Since learning a foreign language is a new skill the students, they should expect to work hard in this class and be prepared to study on their own.
Spanish 1 meets once a week for 1 hour and Spanish 2 meets once a week for 1 1/2 hours. Students need a computer with a web camera, a microphone and a reliable internet connection. Homework assignments will be posted in Google classroom.
