Spanish 1: Syllabus
This high school credit course is an introduction to the Spanish language. It fulfills one year of the Foreign Language requirement for WV High School graduates. Students will perform the most basic functions of the language and become familiar with some of the elements of its culture. The emphasis is based on the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills to promote meaningful language practice. Culture, connections, comparisons, and communities are included in this one-year course.
Content may be subject to change due to pedagogical considerations.
Preliminary Unit: Greet people, introduce yourself, describe the weather, etc.
Unit I: Talk about activities, descriptions as well as likes and dislikes.
Unit II: Talk about daily schedules and describing what you have to do.
Unit III: Talk about food, family and making comparisons.
Unit IV: Talk about clothing and description of places.
Unit V: Talk about house rooms and commands.
Assessment
The assignments for this class are divided into four weighted categories:
40%: Assessments (Tests and large projects)
30%: Homework
20%: Quizzes (Quizzes and mini-projects)
10%: Daily Work (Classwork and participation)
The following is the grade point scale:
100 - 90 A
89 - 80 B
79 - 70 C
69 - 60 D
59 or less F
All work is expected to be handed in on time. Grades will be posted in Google Classroom. A zero will be recorded until the work is submitted. If students do not hand in an assignment when it is due, they will receive 10% off the earned grade for the first day it is late, 20% for the second day, 30% for the third day, 40% the fourth day, and 50% for the fifth day. Beyond that, late or missing assignments will result in a zero.
